Puppy School - A New Model

Customized Puppy School - A New Model for the 20%
Did you know that all puppies go through a major development phase that is commonly missed while people are waiting to enroll in-group puppy classes?
When taking advantage of this important imprint period in your pup’s new life, my pre-school program will give you the blueprints to create the dog of your dreams.
Welcome To A Puppy-Training Program That Defies Tradition And Produces Measurable Results.
MOST dog trainers will have you focus your day-to-day training and perspective about dogs around the “pack dynamic”. Generally, the idea is that, in the dog pack, the alpha dog is the boss, and so the more that you can be like the alpha dog in your family “pack”, the more control you will have over your dog(s).
Try to instead engage dogs in the play dynamic. The idea is that our dogs are hardwired to organize their behavior around play – and the more satisfying the play is with you, not just other pups, the more attentive your dog will be to you in the face of distractions.
Now, how satisfying do you think it is to your dog to be flipped over on his back and shown whose boss? Furthermore, how satisfying do you think those little treats are after you’ve given your dog a million of them?
Clearly we need new ways to satisfy our dogs, so that interacting with us leaves them feeling like they just had the best moment of their lives…again…and again. And one of the best ways is – letting go of old ideas.
Unleash Yourself is the only program offered in Portland that teaches you skills without making the dog do it.
- Compulsive based training suppresses the dog to the point that they do not want to take the chance of leaving for fear of the consequences - unless, of course, the dog discovers a set of circumstances where the trainer can't control the consequences!
- Reward based training PROGRAMS get the dog to obey by using bribery - the dog does get to the point where they can and will respond, but only if something better doesn't come along. The dogs never get the chance to commit to the skill on their own. Commitment is rarely tested as part of the training process.
Only those who train to maintain have the luxury of knowing that when the environment challenges your dogs resolve to stay in position, he is very likely to choose to remain put! This confidence is brought about because your dog has learned to commit to staying voluntarily and this commitment has been tested and solidified through the proofing process. Our approach unlike the other two common methods mentioned above compulsive and bribery, will challenge your dog's commitment to maintain doing what you have taught them, so the dogs confidence, clarity and commitment to it can be developed and honed.
To produce a potential "super" dog takes a great deal of time and effort on the part of the breeder and caretaker. Below is an outline, which will help those who have the time and who, wish to give their puppies every possible chance of preparing to take the world by the tail and achieve their greatest potential.
My 2 Year Puppy Program - This opportunity is offered to pups starting between 8 and 15 weeks of age and starts in your home.
• Puppy pre-school program - 9 consecutive customized lessons. I will come to your home and personally work, train and play safety games with you and your puppy during the fear imprint period. This most powerful phase allows for my secret and powerful proactive approach to preventing potty accidents , puppy biting and ambushing, handling and boundary training on your property. Following participation in this important pre-school program… you will then qualify to join the following series spread out over a 2 year period, including the following:
• Puppy Brain Breaks - weekly socialization play groups involving people, pups and adult dogs interacting off leash in a safe environment
• Puppy Kindergarten - We meet twice weekly to continue building the foundations skills like: focused attention, how to greet adults and children calmly, leash walking and calling your dog away from distractions in the environment. Also Diet, effective mental and physical exercise and injury prevention. 8 lessons meeting twice a week.
• Middle school - we meet out in the real world going to places in your neighborhood like, coffee shops, parks, grocery stores, car rides, vet offices, camp grounds and wherever else you plan to take your dog to practice how you expect them TO BE in public.
• High School - At this point, some of the skills your dog has learned are to offer focused attention, self control to walk away from something while on leash, to come when called off leash, and to relax. We continue building to reach your personal goals, whether it is reliability in the home, real world behavior or preparing for baby, traveling by bike, car or plane. Also teaching advanced skills with distractions like: coming when called at a distance, down stays at a distance, and leash walking/running tactics. Also specialty training like: Truffle hunting, agility, rally o, fly ball, tracking, tricks and more.
• College Series USING WHAT YOU AND YOUR DOG HAVE LEARNED- What your dog has learned over the last several months will help them live with you in a cooperative and calm manner. This experience has taught you a method of teaching that can be used whenever you want to introduce a new behavior to your dog or review an old one. You want a calm feeling puppy to grow up to be a calm feeling balanced adult dog. 8 lessons meeting monthly for 8 months
